Going Public

This week we invited an audience - small in size but significant in presence to participate. It was suggested that the audience would become part of the improvisation. And this proved to be true .....

girl talk - turning to dust
talking led to greater intimacy in the movement then a return to talking about the movement and more movement again. the beginnings and endings are more organic but still the frame that defines an improvisation as a composition. the hopefulness of existing in the space between knowing and unknowing and also the terror of it.
perfume: content and the great divide
Last night i felt like i really stayed in the stuck places long enough to move out of them. Funny how staying, stillness or having are all really powerful tools to actually move forward. Speaking in the beginning and middle brought a new kind of framework to the score. When you talk about your day, your moment in the supermarket, the sex you had the night before, the idea of story changes and becomes linear but it keeps switching back and forth because your body moves out of order and you are simultaneously jumping, swinging, turning, striking through. The movement changes the story. Then there is a new one. Then you stop talking and it is great.

threads
2nd week finds us falling more easily into the movement and to the connections that lie beneath the surface.

"there is a sense of work - that can be really palpable, task oriented movement that is really entertained takes us out of sense of dance/dancing and a sense of reality" ~jfm
"what story are we telling? so much more focus to form" ~kb
